Two NFL pre-seasons ago, Colin Kaepernick refused to stand during the playing of the U.S. national anthem.
Kaepernick would later kneel instead of deciding to not participate during the playing of the U.S. national anthem before NFL games.
”I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL network’s Steve Wyche during the NFL’s preseason in 2016.
The embattled quarterback opted out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers during the NFL’s offseason in 2017, making him a free agent. The Niners didn’t re-sign him and no other NFL team has either.. “I don’t think he will play again in the NFL,” retired NBA player Craig Hodges told me on Scoop B Radio
“Out of sight, out of mind.”

Hodges, a two-time NBA champion alongside Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, was blackballed by the NBA after he expressed his displeasure of African Americans in the United States in a handwritten letter that he gave to former U.S. President, George H.W. Bush during the Bulls’ championship visit to the White House.
Hodges says the waiting period of football may not work in Kaepernick’s favor if he sits out another year. “The question becomes in that twelve months: “Is anybody even going to mess with you anymore,” he said.
“Because they already said you are obsolete because you have been twelve months away from the game.”
Kaepernick, led the San Francisco 49ers to Super Bowl XLVII, but now can’t find employment. “What people don’t understand about the blackballing is that they are effectively shutting down your bank account,” said Hodges.
“You have family, you have loved ones that you want to have a barbecue for or Thanksgiving dinner for or Christmas dinner for; buying them presents. Now all of that is shut down or shut down to a level where now you have to be more mindful trying to stretch this thing when you had four or five or six years of earning potential to rectify many many obstacles in many people’s different lives; not just your family.”
In the 2016, Kaepernick’s last season in the NFL, the QB played twelve games and ended the season with 2,241 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns and four interceptions. Kap also rushed for 468 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns.
“I applaud the young man for having enough insight and enough foresight to be able to put some things away where he can still do the community that he services,” said Hodges.
“He wants to do Meals on Wheels and feeding people and that kind of thing because he is a righteous man.”
Hodges also talked about Michael Jordan’s political stance while playing in the NBA.
When asked by local Chicago media if he would visit the White House after the Chicago Bulls won their first championship in 1991, Michael Jordan reportedly said: “F*** Bush I didn’t vote for him.”
“MJ is not publicly political,” Craig Hodges told Scoop B Radio.
“But he can handle his affairs where he can make a political statement and when he didn’t come to the White House it was a statement. There was no push back from any of his sponsors or any of that because he is who he is and he is the golden goose for a lot of marketers and endorsement companies so it’s not a surprise that it didn’t come back.”
Added Hodges:
“Bush wasn’t his homie but when Clinton was in office he hung out with Clinton and golfed with him.”
