From 12-Year-Old Locker Room Reporter to Independent Media Mogul: How I Built My Empire

People in my circle have been asking recently if 2026 is the hottest streak of my career. Looking at what we’re building right now—owning the masters, launching The Pull Up With Scoop B, running #WORDSWITHSCOOP across culture, and pushing a 19-network syndication deal—the answer is simple: yes. But this momentum didn’t happen overnight. It was built brick by brick across decades of relentless work, quick pivots and zero reliance on corporate permission.

To understand where I’m taking this media empire today, you have to look at the pivotal years that got me here.

1997: The 12-Year-Old in the Locker Room

Before the blue checks and the national insider desks, I was just a kid from Jersey beating out 200 auditioning host candidates to land a co-hosting gig on Nets Slammin’ Planet. At 12 years old, I was standing in NBA locker rooms holding a microphone next to legends like Kobe Bryant, Karl Malone, Dennis Rodman and Shaquille O’Neal. Standing alongside media heavyweights like Stephen A. Smith taught me early on how to navigate elite spaces without blinking.

2010: Learning the Backend Engine at 30 Rock

While getting my Master’s at Hofstra, I spent 2010 inside NBC Universal at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Working behind the scenes for NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, logging tape and watching broadcasting legends like Lester Holt operate gave me a masterclass in newsroom mechanics. It gave me the technical backbone to not just sit in front of the camera, but to produce and execute standard-setting broadcasts myself.

2016–2018: CBS, Cable News and Cultural Intersection

By 2016, I hit national airwaves hosting Brown and Scoop on CBS Radio, while officially laying my own digital foundation with the launch of Scoop B Radio. I knew early that sports couldn’t exist in a vacuum, so I stepped in as Managing Editor at RESPECT. Magazine in 2017 to bridge the gap between hoop, hip-hop and lifestyle. By 2018, that hybrid voice carried over to national television as a regular contributor on MSNBC.

2019–2021: The Breaking News Grind & Network Peak

2019 was total war on the breaking news front. As a Senior Sports Writer at Heavy.com, my reports during that wild NBA free-agency summer were constantly driving the national news cycle across ESPN and Bleacher Report.

When the pandemic hit in 2020, I pivoted fast by dominating NBA Bubble news, analyzing sneaker economics and co-founding #Credentialed to uplift the next generation of Black and brown sports reporters. That digital hustle exploded into 2021: Scoop B Radio crossed 10 million streams, I landed an in-game feature in NBA 2K and I served as Senior National NBA Insider for Bally Sports.

The Bottom Line

In 2021, I had the corporate network platform. In 2026, I own the machine. The goal was never to just be a guest at someone else’s table; it was to build the network, own the content and dictate the playbook. We’re just getting started.
