Kid sports and entertainment reporter, Jeremiah Fennell is living his dream at 12-years old while interviewing the latest and greatest.
While most kids his age are watching their favorite stars on television, Fennell is front in center with them on the big stage.
You name ‘em he’s interviewed them: NBA Hall of Famer Allen Iverson, the Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce, Vice President Kamala Harris and ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.
As remarkable as all of that this is, what’s inspiring about him is his generally. Prior to his meteoric rise, the young man literally couldn’t talk and in fact, his first language was sign language. Fennell was born with a missing gland in his brain, a condition that doctors warned could prevent him from walking, talking or even hearing.
Jeremiah Fennell’s Defying All Odds
The walking miracle eventually learned how to speak and began to discover a love for sports and he’s excited to see where his career may go next. He’s got big plans, too!
“I do want to broadcast an NFL game with Tom Brady,” Fennell told me on Scoop B Radio.
“And then other than that, I just let God take me.”
Despite facing significant health challenges from birth, Fennell’s path to journalism has defied even doctor’s expectations and he’s having a ball.
While his doctors told him that he couldn’t play sports due to his medical conditions, combining his love for sports and his natural curiosity has led him to asking athletes, entertainers and politicians the tough questions. “It kind of works for me because I believed for a long time and you stay true to your faith,” he shared.
“I believed for a long time that I wanted to be a journalist and then eventually my dreams came true. I think if you believe and work hard, then you get whatever you want.”
Kid Reporter Discusses Top Interviews, Fashion Tastes & Discusses Future
While Fennell’s career has just begun he’s already a pro’s pro. When asked who his top five interviews are, he would not allow his hard work to be limited or put into a box.
“Top five,” he asked.
“ It’s hard to sort out a top five because I’ve done a lot of interviews and I really don’t like putting people at the top because I liked all of the interviews from the ones I’ve done at the start and the ones I’ll do at the end of my career. So, I can’t do a “Top 5” but there are some memorable ones when I interviewed the Vice President and the one that got me Davante Adams and a lot of other great people that I really enjoyed their interviews. So, it’s really hard to choose a top five but I will say there’s a lot of memorable ones.”
Lastly, fashion in sports is big business. If you look good, you feel good and it’s likely that you’ll play well too. Fennell says that he’s paying attention to the fashion trends and he’s feeling the vibes. “There’s a lot of players,” he shared.
“I like Russell Westbrook. He dresses cool. I like some of the chains that people wear like Justin Jefferson. I like his chain; I like a bunch of other people’s chains but in the end, I like MY clothes. I feel that I look at my clothes a lot. So, I feel like I’m so focused on me — I focus on them but, it’s mainly just how good I feel.”
