On Wednesday, Ben Simmons made his intentions known by stating his desire for Jamal Crawford to play for the Philadelphia 76ers.
When asked about the state of Jamal Crawford coming to the Philadelphia 76ers, Ben Simmons just told me: “He Needs to come through”

“He needs to come through,” Ben Simmons told me at NBA 2K’s launch party for NBA 2K19.
A three time recipient of the NBA’s Sixth Man of The Year Award, Crawford wants to play for the Philadelphia 76ers. “I like their city,” Crawford told me earlier this month on the Scoop B Radio Podcast.
** Last year, Scoop B Radio garnered 2 million downloads and has been mentioned on sites like Breitbart, New York Post,COMPLEX, ESPN, CBS Sports Radio, People Magazine, Philadelphia Inquirer, FORBES, Billboard, UPROXX, Fansided, Awful Announcing,Bleacher Report,Fox Sports & more. **
“I like how into it they are about basketball, I like their knowledge of basketball, how passionate they are. I’ve always loved Coach Brett Brown. I’ve been on record, I’ve been a fan of his for years. He just needed talent, and now he has that. He added Ben Simmons, I love his game.”
While Crawford may be gung-ho about Philly and it’s no secret that Philly wants him in the City of Brotherly Love, there is still one hurdle: Jerryd Bayless.
League sources have expressed to me that in order to make Jamal Crawford’s roster spot work in Philly, Jerryd Bayless would have to be bought out of his contract or traded.
If you’re keeping score at home, per Spotrac, Jerryd Bayless has one season left on his original three-year, $27 million deal, which comes with a cap hit of more than $8.57 million this season.
Last month, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the Sixers are finding an angle with which they could send Bayless to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for one time Sixer, Kyle Korver.
That talk has since ceased with no real suitors for Bayless identified.
Meanwhile back at the ranch, NBA training camp begins on September 25 and time is ticking for the Sixers.
After firing former GM, Bryan Colangelo the Sixers drafted Villanova product and Philadelphia-area product Mikal Bridges with the 10th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Twenty minutes later, Philly traded the 6-foot-7 swingman to the Phoenix Suns for guard Zhaire Smith and a 2021 first-round draft pick.
Zhaire Smith fractured his foot this month in summer play. The Sixers were also unsuccessful in landing any high profile free agents this summer like LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
Jamal Crawford could be a consolation prize. Per a source, the only other real suitor of Crawford other than the Sixers is the Golden State Warriors.
According to The Ringer, Jamal Crawford is ranked third in the top six remaining free agents.
Crawford, 38, opted out of the second year of his two-year contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, that he signed last summer.
An ageless wonder and a 19-year NBA vet, Crawford averaged 10.3 points, 2.3 assists and 1.2 rebounds while shooting 41.5 percent from the field for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
While Crawford is closer to 40 than 25, this may not be the last season for the scorer for hire. I don’t know what the future holds,” he told me.
“Growing up in the 80s, you could identify players because you knew that with the Lakers, Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Byron Scott, they would be there 8, 9 to 10 years. With Boston it was Bird, McHale, Parish, Danny Ainge they’d be there 19 years.”
